I’ve read a lot online about the double bazooka dipole antenna and if it is more broadband than a dipole. Some folks say yes, others no and there’s a healthy dose of guesswork sprinkled over the top. So I thought let’s do a simple test:
Two 5.5m masts, in a field 10m apart. Rig up a 10m band dipole antenna, test it on a VNA, pull it down again and repeat with a double bazooka dipole.
I tested this with my 10m band setup using two very similar antennas. A dipole antenna cut slightly too long for 10m operation with approx 15cm of ‘fold back’ on the ends for tuning and a double bazooka, also cut slightly long with approx 15cm of fold back for tuning. You can see more details of my bazooka dipole here. Same coax etc for both tests.
And the results (I didn’t optimise perfectly for the centre of the band for a quick test).

Double bazooka looks like a winner to me!
